Scientists are the same as any other group -- most are reasonably honest, trying to perform well enough to not get fired, but more interested in impressing their friends. Some are willing to enhance their results to look better. A few extend that to outright fraud, either as a calculated risk of benefit versus getting caught, or because they're just psychotic sociopaths. Mann seems to be the latter. He's been so integrated in the climate fraud, and so well rewarded for his role in propagating it, he thinks it's real, despite the enormous body of evidence to the contrary.
But Mann isn't the real problem. No fraud can succeed without an abundance of easy marks. Our culture has become so science averse that few people understand the issues, and resort to following popular opinion found on their media safe spaces for guidance. Their ignorance has fed the covid panic. They'll get back to misunderstanding the weather eventually.
Those of us like Cube, trained in reading and interpreting data, sometimes forget that most people are happily oblivious. Probably half the people you meet wouldn't know what a cube is. Something to put in cheap coffee, maybe, or an ugly car. The failed education system is the cause of many of our problems.

we make thumbs more like wisdom teeth....you
don't expect to see thumbs till about mid-teens,
and some never even get them...(this would in-
clude me as I still have no significant wisdom teeth
in xray).....ie you only get thumbs when you sort of
earn them...like car keys....
